Every day, Partners of the Americas collaborates with individuals and organizations around the world to eradicate poverty. The coronavirus pandemic this year has hurt communities experiencing poverty the hardest, yet we are finding ways to work through it to achieve social and environmental justice for all. This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’re highlighting the steps our programs, projects, and members have taken to end poverty during the COVID-19 crisis.
Our USDOL-funded Paraguay Okakuaa (POK) project seeks to alleviate poverty through targeted interventions to empower households to increase their income and improve living conditions. Recently, POK has extended these services to the Department of Boqueron, where the project will provide services for indigenous adult women focused on technical and financial skills and services for adolescents emphasizing skills and personal competencies to foster their education and access to future decent work.
The USAID-funded Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program creates sustainable economic development for women, youth, entrepreneurs, and their rural communities. It provides volunteer-led trainings to these communities with focuses on increased food security, organizational development, market innovations, micro-finance strategies, and economic opportunities. Volunteer contributions and the support of the F2F team have led to increased empowerment and resilience among the most vulnerable and resource-poor areas in the F2F core countries.
Our Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund for U.S. Alumni provides small grants to U.S. citizen alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs to carry out public service projects. One of these projects, Empowering the Indigenous Artists of the Xingu, bridges the gap between indigenous artists in the Xingu Park and urban centers in Brazil during COVID-19. The project works with indigenous artists of Aldeia Kaupüna by teaching them the necessary skills to promote their art online and ultimately generating a source of continuous income regardless of location.

Our members, most notably through our Chapters and PartnersCampus Student Chapters, organize and implement a wide range of projects, services, events, and activities throughout the year to serve their local communities. Through our Education & Culture Small Project Grants, Chapters are able to implement focused and thoughtful projects to support vulnerable populations. Through these initiatives, Partners empowers individuals and communities with the skills, connections, and resources they need for workforce and community development.
