For 60 years, Partners has succeeded in empowering people to improve their lives and those of their communities, like Marina Lopez and her Indigenous community.
Marina is from the municipality of Chiantla, which has one of the highest rates of poverty and malnutrition in Guatemala. Many men from this area have migrated, leaving women as the head of the households and in charge of feeding their families.
To help these women and their families, Partners provided goats to Marina and 300 other Mam Indigenous women. Expert volunteers then trained them on their care. Families like Marina’s are now consuming a rich source of protein and can sell dairy products to sustain their livelihoods.
“I learned to measure the weight and I learned to inspect the eyes, how to cut the hooves. It matters to me because my baby will drink the milk… I will keep going to gatherings and hope for a good future for my family.” – Marina Lopez.
