Participatory Budgeting

Participatory Budgeting (PB), a process in which citizens vote on the allocation of public resources, provides communities with techniques to improve participatory democracy and establish better communication between citizens and elected officials. Participatory budgeting also fosters civic education and local government legitimacy as citizens gain a greater understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and limitations of local governments, and the need to prioritize public demands.

Partners’ Center for Civil Society supports participatory budgeting initiatives by providing technical assistance to local government officials and community leaders in the preparation, and implementation of PB initiatives. We provide resources at various stages of the process, including tools for needs assessments, participatory decision making, and project monitoring.
