The Inter-American Democracy Network (IADN) is the largest civil society network in the hemisphere with more than 360 members in 24 countries. Since 1995, the IADN has provided a platform for leading CSOs to share knowledge and collaborate on projects advancing citizen participation and democracy in the region. Administered by Partners with the support of USAID until 2006, the IADN is comprised of a Buenos Aires-based Executive Secretariat, a Coordinating Group and a General Assembly. Membership is open to all Latin American and Caribbean CSOs, including Partners' chapters, that work in areas associated with the IADN's areas of expertise, listed below.
The Inter-American Democracy Network works to strengthen participatory democracy and civic responsibility in Latin America by:
a) encouraging responsible citizen participation and supporting the implementation of mechanisms and laws that guarantee this participation;
b) promoting citizens' understanding of their democratic rights and responsibilities;
c) fostering collaboration among civil society organizations, national and local governments, and the region's democratic leaders;
d) strengthening members' technical and institutional capacities and financing strategic projects.
