The villages are known for their pottery and feature several wonderful ceramic art museums including Museo Pantaleon Panduro and Museo Regional de la Ceramica. Head to Tequila Town to taste and learn about the beverage in its birthplace. Located about 30 miles from Guadalajara, Tequila Town is surrounded by the agave plants used to produce tequila and is home to many distilleries. Casa Herradura, a distillery in operation since 1870, is responsible for producing the most true Agave Tequila in Mexico and hosts wonderful tours.

For a relaxing day away from the city, you can visit the towns of Chapala and Ajijic, which lie along Mexico’s largest lake. They are known for their comfortable year-round climate and the blend of the Mexican culture with the natural beauty of the pier and lake. Ajijic also has a thriving artist community.
